Krizia Berg, et al. v County of Los Angeles, et al., case No. 2:20-CV-07870-DMG-PD is a class action lawsuit that is currently pending in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. At this time, the District Court's order granting class certification is on appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
The plaintiffs represent a class of people who were present at protests against the killing of George Floyd and police brutality in the County of Los Angeles on May 30, June 3 and 21, August 25, September 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 19 and 25, 2020 and June 12, 2021 and were subjected to force with so-called “less-lethal weapons,” such as rubber or foam bullets or projectiles, tear gas, pepper balls, or similar chemical agents, flashbangs and/or other similar munitions by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.
If you were subjected to force by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department at one of these protests, you may be a member of the "Direct Force Class" that was certified by the District Court in the case.
The plaintiffs also represent a class of approximately 150 people who were arrested by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department on June 3, 2020 and June 21, 2020 and were transported on LASD buses or vans. The plaintiffs allege that LASD subjected those people to unreasonable conditions during the course of the arrests and transportation.
If you were arrested by LASD at the June 3 and/or June 21, 2020 protests, you may be a member of the "Arrest Class” that was certified by the District Court in the case.
In addition, of you were present at one of these protests and witnessed Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies use force against protesters or if you have photos or videos of deputies using force, you may be a witness in this case.
