• Professional Licensure

    In accordance with federal regulations 34 CFR 668.43 and 34 CFR § 668.14 and SARA policy v.21.1 § 5.2, Briar Cliff University provides the following information for programs that “foreseeably lead” to careers requiring state licensure. The US Department of Education provides information about most licensed professions by state. These regulations require us to determine whether or not our licensure related programs satisfy the educational requirements for professional licensure in the states where our students will settle upon graduation.

  • Behavioral Analysis

    Certification (Verified Course Sequence, BCaBA) 
    Briar Cliff University’s Bachelor’s degree in Behavior Analysis is an ABAI Verified Course Sequence (#51045, 5th edition). This means that our program is designed to provide students with the required coursework and practicum experience to qualify for credentialing at the Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBA) level. In order to obtain practicum experience, students must first complete a mandatory supervision contract with the Director of the Behavior Analysis program.

    Professional Licensure
    The Briar Cliff University Behavior Analysis program “meets” the requirements in Iowa. All other states, DC, and the US territories the program would be “does not meet” the requirements. Students wishing to practice Behavior Analysis in a “does not meet” state should research the state-specific requirements.

  • Education Programs

    The Bachelor of Arts in Education (BA) is approved by the State Department of Education of Iowa for the certification of teachers.

    Professional Licensure
    The Briar Cliff University Education programs “meet” the requirements in Iowa, 46 other states, DC and six of the eight US Territories as confirmed by the Iowa IHE Licensure Reciprocity sheet. The education programs would be “does not meet” the requirements in New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Students wishing to practice Education in a “does not meet” state should research the research the state-specific requirements.

  • Nursing Programs

    The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), the Post-Graduate APRN Certificate, and the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs at Briar Cliff University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and approved by the Iowa Board of Nursing.

    Professional Licensure
    All Briar Cliff University nursing programs “meet” the requirements in Iowa. The remaining states, DC, and the US territories would breakdown by program as follows:

    • Pre-licensure BSN – all graduates are eligible to take the national licensing exam (NCLEX) in the state of their choice. Thus, this program would “meet” requirements in all states, DC, and the US territories. Completion of the BSN following licensure as a RN does not lead to additional licensure.
    • MSN and Post-Graduate ARNP certificates – currently graduates would “meet” requirements in the following states: Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Texas. All other states, DC and the US territories the programs would be “does not meet” the requirements. Students wishing to practice Nursing in a “does not meet” state should research the state-specific requirements.
    • Completion of the DNP program does not lead to additional licensure. 
  • Physical Therapy

    The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program is accredited by Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). CAPTE is the only accrediting agency that is nationally recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to accredit entry-level physical therapist education programs. 

    Professional Licensure
    All graduates are eligible to take the National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE) in all states. Thus, this program would “meet” requirements in all states, DC, and the US territories.

  • Social Work

    Briar Cliff University Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) programs at Briar Cliff University are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

    Professional Licensure
    The Briar Cliff University Social Work program “meets” the requirements in Iowa, 33 other states, and D.C. as confirmed by a collaboration with the other higher education social work programs in Iowa. All other states and the US territories, the programs would be “does not meet” the requirements. Students wishing to practice Social Work in a “does not meet” state should research the state-specific requirements.

    The social work department has been accredited by the CSWE since 1974.

  • Attestation

    Briar Cliff University will not be held liable if the student is unable to qualify for licensure or certification in any jurisdiction or cannot obtain a practicum/internship location.
