Each year, the Maricopa County Medical Society presents the Lifetime Achievement Award to recognize an exceptional physician who has had an illustrious career spanning over 40 years, during which they have made groundbreaking contributions to medicine and education. The recipient of this award has demonstrated exceptional professionalism, innovation, and patient advocacy, while inspiring trust and confidence among their patients, colleagues, and community.
Nominations will be accepted from May 1st through August 1st. Each candidate is carefully assessed to determine the degree to which they fulfills each of the requirements according to the criteria established. Announcements will be made on August 30, 2026.
The criteria for the Lifetime Achievement Award are as follows:
1. Demonstrated a long-term commitment to the medical profession, typically over several decades and a lasting legacy through enduring contributions to the advancement of medicine;
2.Significant career achievements and milestones that have contributed to the advancement of medicine and exceptional clinical skills and expertise in their specialty;
3. A substantial body of published work in peer-reviewed journals, research that has significantly advanced medical knowledge and practice, and high citation index, reflecting the influence of their research;
4. Significant contributions to medical education, including curriculum development and teaching excellence, mentored and trained of medical students, residents, and junior faculty, and leadership positions in medical institutions, professional organizations, and committees;
5. Involvement in community health initiatives and public health education and awareness;
6. Recognition by peers for their contributions and impact on the field of medicine.
This award recognizes and demonstrates the immense contribution that a physician has made throughout their career and the legacy created.
