Description:
In the words of Monty Python: "And now for something completely different."
The Sugarloaf Garage Mahal, a/k/a Marv's Man Cave, is a large workshop containing a fantastic collection of woodworking tools owned by Allison Eklund's father Marv and used to produce all the fine cabinets and other wood projects in and around the Sugarloaf cabins. We are privileged to be able to use the tools to produce painting equipment that will last for many years.
A lighweight wet panel carrier that can safely transport two panels facing each other is an incredibly useful way to transport paintings from the field. The workshop will consist of a demo on using the power tools to produce the parts for an 8x10 wet panel carrier, followed by each student's assembly and finishing of each precut kit.
(NOTE: Don't worry, students will not be using the power tools in the shop)
Greg will provide plans for the carrier so if you or a friend have access to a table saw, you can build more of the carriers in different sizes.
Each student will finish and keep one 8x10 wet panel carrier kit of pre-cut parts.
We will go through the steps using simple hand tools to sand, glue and finish the carriers. Additional Wet Panel Carrier kits are available for $10 each to cover materials. They can be finished during the workshop, time permitting.
About the Instructor:
Greg Finnegan is the President of OPM. "I have always been a Maker. I was doing major home renovation for my folks when I was in high school. I can do woodworking, plumbing, electrical, welding, car repair, sewing, knitting. If I see something interesting, my first thought is, I can make that. I made an oil painting guerilla box, a gouache easel and a set of wet panel carriers. I have been painting with oil for about 16 years and gouache for 4 years. I have talked to nearly every artist at PAGM when you checked in at the Rec Hall.
