Chromebook Insurance Agreement

The Pleasant Valley School District issues a Chromebook device to students at no cost to the student’s family. Chromebooks are considered curricular material, like a textbook, and are required to be brought to class daily. As the Chromebook is a take-home device for middle school students (and possibly all students during a school closure event), the proper use and care of the Chromebook is the responsibility of the student and their parent/guardian.

PVSD, as a self-insurer of all district-owned Chromebook devices, performs all device repairs in-house. Repairs typically fall under two categories: accidental damage and abuse. Current repair costs can be found on our website. Typical damage to devices includes cracked screens, broken keyboards, etc. The cost for these repairs can range from approximately $15 to $110 per incident. In addition, the cost to replace a damaged, lost or stolen Chromebook can be as high as $300 or more.

PVSD provides families the option of insuring their student’s Chromebook device against accidental damage and loss or theft of the device. Within thirty (30) days of the start of school, a parent/guardian may choose to insure their student(s) device(s) for $25 each device. This optional insurance premium protects the student’s district-issued device against up to two (2) instances of accidental damage or one (1) complete replacement of a severely damaged, lost or stolen device. A new insurance premium will be required to
continue coverage beyond two repairs or on a replacement device. If the insurance option is waived, any costs associated with the repair or replacement of the Chromebook device will be the responsibility of the student/parent and will be billed accordingly.

Note: Chromebook accessories, lost chargers, etc. are not covered by insurance. Links to purchase replacement chargers can be found on the PVSD website. Replacement devices issued will be state testing-ready when grade appropriate but
may not be of the same model/style as the originally issued device.

Insurance is optional, but highly recommended. Insurance is non-refundable. The student’s legal parent/guardian is responsible for all repair or replacement costs of any uninsured Chromebook device and will be invoiced accordingly.
