Salute to Our Young Heroes Potential Participants and Parents/Guardians:
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to aid and support through established programs in local communities. Delta Sigma Theta currently sponsors several programs designed to promote the development of our youth including Delta Academy, Delta G.E.M.S and Salute to Our Young Heroes. Salute to Our Young Heroes is a program implemented by the Pontiac Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. whose primary focus is on African American males in the 11th or 12th grade.
To participate in the Salute to Young Heroes program interested young men must:
- African American Male High School Junior or Senior
- Reside in our Service Area: Auburn Hills, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Clarkston, Commerce Township, Independence Township, Keego Harbor, Lake Angelus, Lake Orion, Oakland Township, Orchard Lake,Orion Township, Pontiac, Rochester, Rochester Hills, Sylvan Lake, Troy, Walled Lake, Waterford, West Bloomfield, and Wolverine Lake
- Submit a completed application packet
- Submit all applicable consent forms to participate with parental signature
- Submit local and national Code of Conduct with applicant and parental signatures
- Participate in the virtual mandatory applicant/parent orientation
- Participate and be engaged in all meetings, assignments, and special events (Note that those who do not have regular participation, without approved justification, may become ineligible for the remainder of the program year and will not be eligible to attend year end festivities.)
PROGRAM GOALS:
- Instilling the need to excel academically.
- Providing tools that enable young men to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success.
- Fostering friendships and bonds among participants that support, challenge, and assist in navigating the pressures of young adulthood
- Assisting young men in proper goal setting when planning for their futures for high school and beyond.
- Creating compassionate, caring, and community minded young men and actively involve them in service advocacy and community service opportunities.
This application must be completed and submitted by SEPTEMBER 7, 2024
Parent and Youth Must Attend Parent Orientation on SEPTEMBER 29, 2024
*Failure to submit a complete application will exclude the application from consideration*
