The Practice Space is a woman of color-led nonprofit, rooted in the Iron Triangle of Richmond, CA, serving the Bay Area and beyond. We help youth and adults figure out what they want to say and speak in a clear, engaging manner that represents who they are. We develop communication skills and facilitate safe, fun environments where people feel a sense of belonging. We engage youth and community leaders in all levels of our organization. We take a positive, fun approach to serious work.
We are currently seeking Lead and Assistant Coaches to run our after-school programs, classes, and workshops happening year-round!
You might be a great fit if you have:
- 1 to 2 or more years of experience as a mentor, coach, tutor, summer camp counselor, or teacher (or you have a strong interest in mentorship, public speaking, speech and debate, etc.)
- Strong communication, team work, and relationship building skills
Experience with public speaking, performing arts, and/or speech and debate is a plus
- Eligible to work in the United States and ability to work in school districts on campus with students (i.e. can pass fingerprinting clearance, background checks, school/district COVID requirements, and TB tests)
- Background in Education, Youth Development, Performing Arts, or a related field (a great to have but not required!)
- Comfortable working with youth across a range of age levels and co-teaching
Position Details:
- Our coaching roles are ideal for part-time employees, college students/graduate students in education or communication, consultants looking for project work, substitute teachers, debate coaches, and other interested educators with flexible schedules!
- Total hours depend on the needs of the school sites, although typically between 2pm and 5:30pm for a maximum total of 10 hours/week (less is possible as well). Schedules are agreed upon in advance, including time for co-planning.
- Salary depends on position and experience , ranging between $25-35/hour. These positions are not eligible for benefits or overtime.
- As a Lead coach, you are part facilitator, coordinator, connector, and manager. You facilitate fun and engaging weekly program sessions, you coordinate with your after-school site program lead to ensure smooth logistics, and you build trusting relationships with students, families, school personnel, and The Practice Space staff.
- As an Assistant coach, your duties would include collaborative planning, teaching and giving feedback, preparing student performances and products, and collecting data if needed.
