Per the attendance policy in the Middle School Handbook, my student and I understand:
The school will determine whether the absence is excused or unexcused. Absences that are a) medical in nature, b) funerary, c) matrimonial, or d) otherwise “once-in-a-lifetime” events will be deemed excused and students can turn their work in/make up assessments upon return. All other absences are unexcused and students will turn their work in/take assessments prior to their absence when possible. Final decision is at the Head of Middle School's discretion.
When a student has an unexcused absence, all work is immediately due upon the student’s return to school. It is the responsibility of the student to contact the teacher in order to complete any work. Students should expect that work not completed and turned in upon their return to school to be penalized as a late or missed assignment.
The Planned Absence Form is to be completed and returned to the MS Office at least one week prior to the absence. You may email jama.keener@mybga.org.
Students will not be excused the day before or the day after a vacation period, except in the case of severe illness or emergency with a doctor’s note or other documentation. If a student does leave early or return late from vacation time without special permission of the Head of Middle School, the absence will be considered unexcused.
Any absence not excused by the Head of Middle School shall be considered unexcused.
