Basic Travel Outline
This year we have been advised by security organisations to keep travel information relatively brief before a participant has officially signed up. Thus, upon the completion of your signup, you can expect to receive an in depth email detailing the travel plans to and from Machaneh Bonim Beyachad including flight numbers, times, airports and more. In order to give adequate information regarding travel, below is a basic outline of such for both participants from Johannesburg and Cape Town.
Please note that any and all other travel not from either Johannesburg or Cape Town is considered special and will be treated as such. Meaning, a special travel request must be sent to Daniel Rome on travel@habo.org.za with a detailed explanation, or by following the special travel prompts on this form.

Special Travel:
If your child is planning on missing any part of machaneh, please read below:
You require permission for your child to leave the campsite during the course of machaneh.
If so, please email Daniel Rome on travel@habo.org.za with a detailed request.
Children leaving camp before its full duration can be very disruptive to the flow of the camp. It also often causes homesickness in the friends of campers who leave. Having said this, Habonim Dror acknowledges special circumstances where leaving camp early is unavoidable. As such, the Machaneh Va'ad Poel (Camp Steering Committee) will maintain a policy to ensure campers only leave early for reasons approved by Habonim leadership. The policy will be adhered to strictly, especially considering camp ends early enough in 2024 for additional local holidays with family and friends to be planned around Machaneh.
- The approved reasons to leave camp are: A family celebration. If this is the case, the camper will ask to leave for the celebration only and return on the next possible travel day.
- A pre-booked overseas family holiday/function. If this is the case, we ask you to send us a copy of your flight ticket.
- A competitive sport or cultural event. If this is the case, please provide a letter from the relevant teacher or coach.
- A medical procedure. If this is the case, please provide a doctor's letter.
For any other reasons, your special travel request will have to be discussed with Daniel Rome who may turn it down. The Machaneh Va'ad Poal may choose to make an exception for valid reasons. Habonim may arrange special transport for your children on specific days and at a standardised cost in conjunction with Daniel Rome.
- NB: If your child is NOT travelling on Habonim transport TO or FROM machaneh (NOT using Habonim's transport), it is imperative that you request permission by specifying this 'Alternative Arrangement'.
