2025 Nathaniel O'Brien Class of Cabaret Scholarship Application
Adelaide Cabaret Festival and Adelaide Festival Centre's centrED invite talented performing arts students currently in year 10 or 11, from regional South Australia to nominate themselves for the 2025 Nathaniel O'Brien Class of Cabaret Scholarship. The chosen applicant will receive express entry into the 2025 Class of Cabaret program.

The recipient of the scholarship will take part in rehearsals, workshops, masterclasses, and an intensive day camp throughout Terms 1 & 2 culminating in performances as part of the 2025 Adelaide Cabaret Festival. Each scholarship is valued up to $6,000 to assist with travel and accommodation required to attend each session, which all part place in Adelaide. They will also receive mentorship in the art of cabaret performance from two renowned artists and private tuition from one of Adelaide's leading vocal teachers. In addition, a Department for Education teacher will guide students through assessments to achieve SACE accreditation in either Creative Arts Stage 2 or Community Studies Stage 1, which is an integral part of the experience.

Auditions: Wednesday 23 & Thursday 24 2024 (Term 4, Week 2)

Notification of Results by: The week following auditions (Term 4, Week 2)

Information night for successful applicants: Wednesday 13 November (Term 4, Week 4)

Adelaide Cabaret Festival Dates: 6-21 June 2025

Class of Cabaret Performance Date: Saturday 21 June 2025

Workshops: Approx. 20 sessions held over Terms 1 & 2, 2025

Auditions

Live Auditions and Auditions via Video Submission
Students from regional areas are not expected to attend the auditions in person but are welcome to if it is their preference.

For students not attending live auditions, please upload or provide links to your audition video/s. Use the below as a guide for your audition recording:

Video Submission Content

1. Introduce yourself

2. Perform either two contrasting songs (maximum 2 minutes each) OR one 2min song and one 2min variety act (you could dance, rap, do stand-up comedy, recite poetry, clown, or perform magic or a monologue)

3. Showcase or explain any further performing arts talents/skills you have

4. Answer the following questions to camera:
- Why did you select your chosen song/s?
- Describe what Cabaret is to you (how do you define the genre)
- What are you passionate about (are there any causes or movements you feel strongly about)? Do you have something to "say"?
- Briefly explain your performing arts background (how long you have been performing for, where have you performed, what arts are you involved in)?
- What School subjects will you be doing next year?
- Would you have space in your workload to do SACE Creative Arts as part of the program?
- Do you have any other performances in the first half of the year?
- We require a commitment to all rehearsals during Term 1 & 2, do you see any potential clashes and can you make a commitment to the program?
Please ensure that the camera is focused on the performer at full-length and is of suitable audio and visual quality, with an appropriate backdrop and NOT a group production.

*It is advised that students select 2 pieces with strong storytelling content, that either:
- Connects to a world event or social issue that is important/interesting to you
- Inspires you
- Explores a passion or interest of yours
- Reflects an aspect of yourself
- Showcases an ideal or value of your generation and/or community
