"Moving Towards Success" Scholarship
Purpose

The Mu Tau Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. offers our chapter scholarship to graduating seniors in the Killeen, Copperas Cove, Harker Heights, and Belton Independent School Districts.

The monetary amounts are determined by the Scholarship Committee.

CRITERIA:
- Must be a graduating high school senior during the current Academic year.
- Completed application.
- Application must be received on time without exception!
- 2.5 Minimum GPA overall (Must use the most recent completed cumulative GPA by application deadline.
- OFFICIAL high school transcript
- ALL transcripts must be submitted using the grading policy/GPA scale currently used by their school.
- Student must reside and attend a high school in one of the listed districts.
- Write an essay on one of the topics from the dropdown menu below (Minimum 250 words on a separate document from the application) Essay is NOT to exceed 500 words. Essay must be typed, appropriately formatted, Times New Roman or Arial font style, font size 12, double-spaced, and error-free.
- Provide a short, typed paragraph (Funding essay) on why this scholarship is needed. (This is separate from the Topic essay and less than 250 words.)
- No essay will be accepted or considered for evaluation if it is handwritten. All submissions that are wrinkled, stained, handwritten, or unprotected will be eliminated from consideration.
- Two letters of recommendation, one from a school official such as an administrator, guidance counselor, department chair, teacher (English, Science, Math, Social Science) or academic advisor and one from a person in the community (letters from relatives are strictly prohibited). All letters of recommendation MUST include their full name, phone number, and email address, be on an official letterhead AND contain a digital or written signature.
- A possible face-to-face panel interview of the applicant with the review committee.
- Scholarship winners will attend the National Pan-Hellenic Council Scholarship Reception. Date and location TBD. Instructions will follow upon announcement of the scholarship winners. Be advised. Class rankings and test scores have no determination on the selection of the winners. However, involvement in the community does.
- PROOF OF FULL-TIME ENROLLMENT REQUIRED FOR FUND DISBURSEMENT!!!

APPLICATION PROCESS:

Application season is open! All applications must be submitted NLT 12:00 p.m. CST on the third Friday in April. (ECHS students will turn their application into their AVID instructor. No applications will be reviewed after the deadline date. No incomplete applications will be considered! **If mailing applications, they must be postmarked before the deadline to be considered** The completed application should include the following: 1. Application 2. Transcripts 3. Topic Essay 4. Funding Essay (Why Scholarship is needed) 5. Two Letters of Recommendation.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD RECIPIENT INSTRUCTIONS:

Following notification of the scholarship award, the recipient(s) selected must provide proof of full-time enrollment at an accredited college or university within the academic year prior to final disbursement of the award.
