Criteria
The Silicon Valley Engineering Council Keeper of the Flame Award recognizes and supports outstanding teachers in the elementary, middle school and high schools (K-12) whose programs maintain rigorous standards of performance and student participation in STEM in the face of significant challenges.
- The applicant must live or work within the following 8 counties: San Francisco, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz
- The applicant must show commitment to high standards of achievement in science, technology and engineering, mathematics courses helping student grow their problem solving skills beyond the classroom, providing an effective balance of theory and practice in their courses
- The applicant must show strong academic performance as indicated by academic degrees, professional presentations and contributions
- The applicant should provide strong recommendations from faculty peers, students, and/or supervisors
- The applicant should demonstrate involvement in the promotion of professional and/or student activities, student competitions, or projects
- The applicant should demonstrate involvement in community and/or social services activities
- The applicant should demonstrate innovative approaches to inviting student participation and involvement
Granting of Awards
Awardees will be notified through e-mail by February 7th, 2025, and will be awarded at the SVEC Engineers Week Banquet on February 2025. It is expected but not required that awardees attend the banquet. Each recipient and one companion will be SVEC guests.
