The program is a series of ten topics designed to prepare you for new parenthood.  The classes will take place over the course of two Sundays (May 31st and June 7th), 10 AM - 4 PM.  Although not required, we do encourage folks to bring a support person (e.g., spouse, partner, family, or friend).  Lunch, snacks, and refreshments will be provided.  The classes focus on the things we think about most leading up to the birth of a child: sleep, nutrition, infant feeding, infant safety (including infant and child CPR),  infant brain development, complimentary and alternative treatment options (i.e., acupuncture and pelvic floor therapy), and emotional health and wellbeing in the early months after your birth. Each topic is presented by a new expert; professionals you can lean on once your baby is born. You'll also have an opportunity to connect and meet with other families -- having a support system is critical during those early months and years.

Individual Courses: Infant and Caregiver Sleep, Infant Feeding, Nutrition during the Perinatal Period, Emotional Wellness Planning, Infant/Child CPR, FAQs and Birth Planning with a Panel of Community Doulas, FAQs and Birth Planning with a Panel of Community OB-GYNs/Midwifes, and Complimentary and Alternative Treatments (pelvic floor therapy, acupuncture, pediatric PT, etc).  There will also be an opening session and closing session with other community experts.

Additionally, we want to help prepare your home for your new baby! At the last session, we will be gifting one family a large baby item (e.g., stroller, Pack 'n Play, year membership to Zoo or DMNS or Botanic Gardens, etc).

Please note that we take photos and videos at our events for social media purposes.  If you are not comfortable with being included in these, we are happy to make sure you are not in the frame, or if you are, we are far enough away that it is not possible to identify you.  If you would like to opt out of social media, please indicate in our question about this below.  We will also check-in with folks on the first day of classes to confirm your comfort with this.

  • Childcare Waiver & Policy Agreement

To support parents attending our Sunday prenatal education classes, we are pleased to offer on-site childcare services provided by Jovie. The safety and well-being of all children and families are our top priorities. Please review and acknowledge the following policies:
  • Childcare Guidelines

    • Children must remain in the designated childcare area while speakers are presenting.
    • The door to the childcare area will remain closed during instructional time for safety and to minimize disruptions.
    • During breaks between speakers, children may leave the childcare area to:
      • Use the restroom

  • Acknowledgment & Agreement

By signing below, I acknowledge that I have read, understand, and agree to the policies outlined above. I understand that these guidelines are in place to ensure the safety and smooth operation of the childcare services.

  • We don't want transportation to be the reason you miss a session! Please indicate below if you need help getting to class.*
  • **Please note that if you plan to bring your child (ren) with you in a Lyft ride, we require that folks provide appropriate car seats for their children.  Occasionally, we are able to arrange for Lyft to provide a car seat, but we cannot guarantee this.  For your safety, the safety of your child (ren), and for liability purposes, we please ask that you are able to arrange for a car seat.  Please contact Adrianne Sloan if you need help with this.**

  • Transportation & Car Seat Policy

For the safety of all families, any Birth Squad participant requesting transportation assistance by rideshare (e.g., Lyft) who is bringing a child(ren) must provide and properly use an appropriate car seat or booster seat for each child. Our organization does not supply car seats. Participants are responsible for bringing and correctly installing a seat that fits their child’s age, weight, and height. If a car seat is not available at the time of your ride, we may need to cancel or reschedule transportation to ensure everyone’s safety.
