We can only fill medications for patients who have been seen at our facility or one of our sister hospitals within the past year (Mount Laurel Animal Hospital, Audubon Family Veterinary Center, Absecon Veterinary Hospital, Cape Veterinary Hospital, Art City Vets, and Exclusively Cats).

3. We can provide a written script only that would need to be picked up for online pharmacies that we are not partnered with.

**All prescriptions seeking to be filled through an online pharmacy, other than Vet’s First Choice, will require a physical written prescription to be picked up from Pennsauken Animal Hospital. Written prescriptions cannot be scanned, faxed, or emailed but can be mailed to you if needed. No other approval method will be provided by Pennsauken Animal Hospital for online pharmacies as we cannot confirm the quality or condition of the medications from such sources.

Dogs- Preventions

Based on AAHA-AVMA, CAPC, and CDC guidelines, all dogs should be on effective year-round prevention for heartworm, GI parasites, fleas, and ticks, considering risk of exposure.

Heartworm preventatives are all FDA-approved prescription products, and all are excellent at the prevention of heartworm but have variable efficacy for different GI parasites. For example, Heartgard Plus is only effective at killing adult roundworms and hookworms, while Sentinel Spectrum is effective at killing juvenile and adult roundworms and hookworms, as well as whipworms and tapeworms. Some heartworm preventatives also protect against fleas and ticks.

Generally for our dog patients, we typically recommend Sentinel Spectrum (monthly) and Bravecto (1-month or 12-weeks). These provide excellent coverage for heartworm, roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, tapeworm, as well as fleas, ticks, and mites.

Cats- Preventions

Based on AAHA-AAFP, CAPC, and CDC guidelines, all cats should be on effective year-round prevention for fleas, and may benefit from prevention for GI parasites and ticks based on exposure. Even indoor-only cats have some flea and mosquito (heartworm) exposure and may encounter GI parasites from paratenic hosts (flies, mice) or eggs entering the home.

For the majority of our feline patients, we recommend Bravecto Plus, which offers excellent flea/tick prevention, and also protects against heartworm, roundworm, and hookworm. One dose of Bravecto Plus lasts for 2 months and is applied topically. For kittens under 6 months old, we recommend Revolution.
