Dear Parents:

Welcome to our Baptism Preparation Program at St. Michael’s. We are happy that you have expressed a desire to have your child baptized into the Catholic community and look forward to meeting with you. After completing the attached form, please return it with the signed Statement of Commitment to the parish secretary along with our Baptism class fee of $50.00.

Our pre-Baptismal Program consists of one 1-hour session held in the Parish Center. The purpose of this evening is to help you gain a fuller appreciation of the sacrament of Baptism and to learn of your key role as a primary religious educator of your child. You will be given time to reflect on your own faith commitment, the beliefs of the Catholic Church, as well as your reasons for wanting to have your child baptized in the Catholic Faith. You will be contacted as to the time and date of the session.

As is the situation with many couples requesting Baptism for their child, their own faith relationship with the Church may not be in good standing. For example, Church attendance at Mass and the reception of sacraments is very infrequent or not at all, and many are not even married in the Church.

Should your own faith situation be similar to these couples, we look forward to spending some special time with you to help you prepare yourselves to participate more fully as active Catholic parents. By the date of your child’s Baptism, you should: be attending Church weekly; have had your marriage situation resolved with our priests; and have prepared yourself by receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation.

The sacrament of Baptism is a very important day in the spiritual life of your child. Through this sacrament of initiation, your child is welcomed into the community of God’s family. We look forward to helping you prepare for this special moment.

We have read, understand and agree that we must demonstrate an active commitment in the practice of our faith as detailed in the Baptism Preparation Welcome Letter before our child will be baptized at St. Michael’s Church.
