Michelle Maddox brings over 26 years of experience in developing key sectors of Anchorage’s economy, including financial services, freight, and rail travel. Originally from Idaho, Maddox earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Utah State University in Logan. The allure of professional opportunities and endless outdoor adventure drew Maddox and her husband, Korey, to Anchorage in May 1998.
Shortly after arriving, Maddox secured the position of Assistant Controller with the Alaska Railroad (ARRC). She advanced to the role of Chief Financial Officer in 2023, overseeing a wide range of departments, including financial planning and analysis, accounting, supply management, grant administration, information technology, and risk management. Her previous roles, such as head of payroll and accounts payable and controller, have sharpened her skills in forecasting, auditing, and strategic development.
As CFO, Maddox is a member of the railroad’s executive management team and provides advise to its seven-member board of directors on financial matters, including anything from northbound freight revenues, winter passenger train costs, and large procurements for new locomotives. She strongly believes in the power of teamwork to achieve remarkable results and leverages organization-wide collaborative efforts to enhance rail operations. Supported by a dedicated team of employees, Maddox’s finance department is instrumental in ensuring the Alaska Railroad remains a sustainable economic engine for the State of Alaska.
Why Michelle wants to serve on the Anchorage Chamber's Board of Directors:
"I served as Board of Director for the Anchorage Chamber last year and gained a great appreciation for the services and support it provides to the businesses of our great city. As a long-time Anchorage resident, I have seen how vibrant economic corridors bring meaningful improvement to our communities and markedly improve the lives of its residents. I would be honored to continue my service to the chamber and play a role in leading our city to bigger and better economic, civic and cultural opportunities."
