Sleepy Grove Puppy Application
This application does not guarantee you a puppy or a place on our waitlist. We review applications thoroughly and match puppies to the best home for them. We get a considerable number of applications and only have 1-2 litters a year. Please be patient. If you are looking for a puppy next week or specifically for a Christmas present, etc. we are likely not the breeder for you because we do not have a constant stream of puppies. We carefully plan our litters well in advance. Before approving any applicant we will have an interview. This may seem a bit like a job application, but this is because we truly care about the puppies we produce and want to match them with the best homes. We give preference to performance homes but also have several pet puppies available from each litter. We also breed to produce the wonderful Golden Retriever temperament so we usually have a couple of service prospects available from select litters. As a reputable preservation breeder, I do breed to keep a puppy from a litter. The goal is to breed to standard and to improve the breed.

Preferences
We work hard to match puppies as much as possible to the best home for them. We do temperament tests at 7 weeks old and take notes throughout the puppies time with us and use this information to make a match. With that in mind, it's not always possible for us to accomodate all of your preferences. But we do try to take those into consideration. We do not do first picks, second picks, etc. (Many reputable breeders do not.)
Do you have a strong preference on color for your Golden Retriever? This is never something we can guarantee but depending on the litter they may be darker or lighter.

Once in a while we have Golden Retrievers around 2 years or older that could use a home. These Goldens are well adapted to the house life, but aren't as exciting as puppies. Are you seeking to skip the puppy phase?

Why do you have a preference on male/female (if you do)?
Explain the desired temperament you want out of your puppy when they reach adulthood. Do you want a low energy couch potato, a medium energy Golden that you can go hiking with when they're older, a high energy Golden you can train to do agility with, etc. (Goldens usually never come "out of the box" as that calm couch potato. They are a sporting breed and are usually mouthy little land sharks for the first year while they explore the world with their mouth. Training, enrichment, structure, and consistency do help with raising them to be that wonderful adult. But I always like prospective puppy buyers to be aware of that before they bring a puppy home.)
