Ever wonder what it is like to be a Police Officer?
At the Citizens Police Academy, you will have the opportunity to go behind the scenes to see and hear first-hand the tremendous curriculum recruits must master before they can wear the uniform. Your instructors will be real police officers and civilian employees. They will provide you an accelerated overview of the various operations of the Police Department. It is our goal to increase understanding of police work and to develop effective partnerships with the community. Please join us and be part of this important effort.
There is no charge. The only investment on your part is three hours of your time for 12 weeks. What you’ll learn, in turn, will not only benefit you, but if shared with your family, neighbors, friends, and co-workers, could have a significant impact on community-police relations.
The class is made up of a cross-section of the entire community. Professionals, homemakers, laborers, students, educators, retirees, and others are encouraged to apply for admission. You must be at least 21 years of age to enroll and live, work, or attend school in the City of Greenville.
You will receive a confirmation email stating that your application has been received. This is only the first step to attending the class. We will be conducting a background check and an in-house activity check on each applicant prior to final acceptance. Once your background investigation is completed, you will receive an acceptance or denial letter from the Police Department.
Please understand that some issues would require that your application be denied. Persons with felony convictions; pending charges for Family Violence; Assault on Peace Officer; or Resisting Arrest; current illegal drug usage; or mental health issues involving violence or attempted suicide will be denied. We cannot teach police tactics and procedures to individuals with these issues.
If your application is denied, you may request a review in writing. Please address it to Officer James Hamilton, P.O. Box 1049, Greenville, TX 75403 and list all extenuating circumstances that you would like to have considered. The Chief of Police will have final say on all applications.
