APPLICATIONS DUE BY AUGUST 16th, 2024.
PLEASE REVIEW THE FOLLOWING INFO CAREFULLY BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION:
-This is a winter festival that takes place in approximately 14 mostly indoor venues around the downtown core of the small community of Cumberland, BC on the unceeded traditional territory of the Puntledge, E'iksan and K'ómoks peoples.
-Artists can apply to present live music, dance, workshops, kids performances, installation art, theatre, stand-up comedy, and any other art form. Artisans interested in the artisan market can apply through a separate application shortly.
-Booking for this festival is done through a booking commitee who all review the applications. This process is in place to ensure different artistic tastes are represented in our line-up. The booking process takes place from August-October.
-The venues range from community halls and established venues to small businesses that turn their shopfront into a venue for the weekend.
-Due to this variety we ask artists who perform to be flexible in their needs and requirements. For example, we cannot guarantee a green room at each venue and you may need to be in the audience area pre-show. The integration of artists and audience is what leads to many magical moments at this event.
-Each venue at this event differs in what kind of acts it can accomodate, so it is really important to apply with the line-up for your act that you would be planning to attend with. We cannot necessarily accomodate changes in instrumentation or other needs for an act (for example, not all venues can accomodate a drum kit).
-LIVE VIDEO IS KEY! We want to know what your performance sounds and looks like, so please submit a live performance video with your application if possible to increase your changes of being considered to perform at the event. This does not need to be super high production value, as long as it shows what you do on stage.
-The festival has a merchandise store where artists can sell their merch for an 85% artists, 15% festival split. Artists may also sell merchandise at their performance and keep 100% but we will not be providing tables or any other infrastructure for this, any any set-up must not impede audience movement.
-Touring artists are mostly billeted with local community members of the Comox Valley for accomodation, and billets get weekend passes in exchange for hosting artists. The majority of our artists and billets have had an excellent experience as guests and hosts over the 7 years the festival has been running. If you are not comfortable being billeted please indicate in the comment section of the application.
***GUESTS*** Please review this info carefully to avoid confusion and dissapointment in later communication:
This a festival made up of many small capacity venues, so there are some unique challenges that make accomodating guests of artists very difficult. We have a lot of performers, so if everyone brought a guest the festival would not be able sell enough tickets to be financially feasible.
DUE TO THIS REALITY WE HAVE A *NO GUEST PASS* and *NO GUEST ACCOMODATION* policy for this event.
Here are a few alternatives if guests want to attend the event:
1) VOLUNTEER! We have a lot of jobs that we need awesome volunteers for both before, during and after the event. See www.woodstovefestival.ca for volunteer applications up shortly.
If your guest is doing an important job with the act, such as providing childcare while an artist is performing, you can request for a custom volunteer position to be created for them.
2) STAY WITH FRIENDS! If you have friends or family in the Comox Valley who are willing to host you we can provide weekend passes to anyone living in the unit. If you're a local artist and can host one or more touring artists for festival weekend, we can provide guest passes to your family/roomates living in the unit.
3) RENT YOUR OWN ACCOMODATION! If you would like to attend the festival with friends or family and you want to rent your own accomodation, we can provide guest passes to people staying with you as this saves us having to find you billeted accomodation.
4) SOUND OR HOSTING SHIFT IN EXCHANGE FOR A GUEST PASS: Artists have the option of doing a 5 hour sound tech or stage hosting shift during the festival weekend in exchange for a guest pass.
