  • Objective

    To provide the highest standard of coaching and development to the players of the appointed grade of competition whilst following the direction of the Committee/Coaching Coordinator.

    Responsibilities

    • Coach in accordance with the SMJFL By-Laws 
    • Adhere to the Bentleigh Way and encourage all coaching staff, officials and players to also act in accordance with the agreement both on and off the field
    • Provide game day coaching expertise
    • Report to BJFC Committee and Coaching Coordinator

    Note:
    * Playing fees will be subsidised for BFNC players if appointed as coach
    * Those who do not have coaching experience will be mentored throughout the season
    * In the event multiple applications are received for an age group, 
    interviews will
      be held by an independently appointed coaching 
    panel.
    * Appointed Coaches and Assistant Coaches will receive a BJFC Soft Shell Coaching
      Jacket and Polo

  • I {name} am applying for a coaching position with the Bentleigh Junior Football Club (BJFC) for season 2025 acknowledge that, should I be appointed to a coaching position, I will abide by the following:

    1. I will, in my role as a BJFC coach, respect the rights, dignity and worth of all individuals including refraining from any discriminatory practices on the basis of ability, race, religion, ethnic background, or disability.
    2. I will abide by and support the AFL Laws of the Game, the AFL Coaches Code of Conduct (to be signed on appointment), the rules of the Southern Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL), and the rules and Policies of the BJFC.
    3. As a BJFC coach I am required to:
      • Maintain team discipline and instruct players to play within the rules and club policies
      • Promote sportsmanship towards opposition teams
      • Comply with the Codes of Conduct and / or behaviour Policy prescribed by AFL Victoria.
    4. I am to follow all coaching Guidelines and Policies as set down by the BJFC and committee from time to time; 
    5. I must apply best endeavours to attend and participate in all coaches meetings conducted by BJFC;
    6. I am to oversee the fair and equitable application of voting by team officials and volunteer parents ensuring that bias in voting will not be tolerated and that players are rewarded for both on and off field attitude, commitment, fairness, teamwork as well as skill and ability and sportsmanship.
    7. I will use best endeavours to keep club members informed of the team’s progress via a game day report acknowledging the team’s performance and key contributors at the conclusion of each game;
    8. 8. I understand the importance of refraining from the use of the offensive language and behaviour when addressing BJFC and opposition players, officials, parents and spectators or SMJFL officials and umpires;
    9. I am to communicate to parents and guardians of players in my charge the philosophy and objectives of both the club and myself;
    10. I am to encourage parents and guardians of any children in my charge to approach me directly at reasonable times (not during scheduled games) to discuss any issues pertaining to the team or their child;
    11. I will comply with all requirements of the BJFC and the club in relation to coaching level accreditations and will complete a current AFL Level 1 Coaches Course.
    12. I will lead by example in showing strong sportsmanship to opposition teams no matter what he result of any game.
    13. I understand that breaching Club or League policy, particularly through abusive language, unsportsmanlike behaviour or breaking SMJFL rules will result in the review of my position by the Committee with potential for suspension or dismissal.
