The Hospitalist is the monthly, award-winning newsmagazine of the Society of Hospital Medicine, reporting on issues and trends in hospital medicine. It reaches more than 33,000 hospitalists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, medical residents, and health care administrators interested in the practice and business of hospital medicine.
We are currently seeking a Pediatrics Editor to join our editorial team for a three-year term, beginning at SHM Converge 2025 in Las Vegas, with an option for a one-year extension.
The deadline for applications is October 15, 2024, followed by a selection process and interview.
Pediatrics Editor Roles & Responsibilities
- You will write one article on the pediatric-focused topics of your choice (as approved by the physician editor) to appear in an issue of The Hospitalist each year of the agreement. Deadlines and specific details of the assignment will be made individually.
- Every other week, you’ll participate in a 30-60-minute conference call with the editorial team, comprised of SHM’s communications team, associate editor, and publisher’s managing editor, to discuss editorial planning, strategy, metrics, and other operational issues.
- Monthly, you’ll participate in a half-hour editorial board virtual meeting to generate ideas for future articles, brainstorm, and identify topics and sources for Wiley freelancer-assigned articles.
- Monthly, you will be asked to review each pediatric-focused article in the magazine for clinical accuracy and relevance to SHM members.
- Monthly, you will review a PDF of the designed issue to ensure it meets SHM standards.
- On an ongoing basis (as needed, daily, weekly), you will make yourself available to The Hospitalist’s editorial team for opinions and advice.
- You will attend SHM Converge as a representative of The Hospitalist and attend the editorial board meeting.
