  • Role Description

    The Student Representative-at-Large for the National Council is a 1-year term as a voting member of the Mortar Board National Council. Responsibilities include:

    • Attendance at monthly meetings (virtual);
    • Participation in Mortar Board initiatives such as Mortar Board Week and the Annual Awards Ceremony;
    • Attendance/Participation in the Special National Conference (each January) and the Annual National Conference (in-person during even years, virtual during odd years);
    • Cultivate relationships with Mortar Board collegiate members through programs, conversations, social media, and other modes;
    • Be a champion for Mortar Board Inc. and uphold the values of Mortar Board.

    Note: Candidates must commit to being present during all of the conference and submit a statement of interest prior to the election. The nominating committee will select candidates to present to the delegation for a vote during the conference.

  • Application Instructions

    These are the steps necessary to put yourself in a position to run for the student representative position on the National Council:

    1) Complete this form, called "Statement of Interest" and submit it on or before July 13 at 11pm. 

    2) Meet with members of the Standing Nominations Committee prior to conference at the Student Representative Interest Meeting (Sunday, July 13 at 7pm ET - more information will be emailed after you submit this form).

    3) The Standing Nominations Committee, chaired by past-National President Katie Chick, will determine which candidates to present to the delegation.

    4) Stand for election with other candidates during the conference by presenting a two-minute speech to the delegates assembled at the National Conference on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

    Brief Statement of Interest - Your statement of interest will be supplied to the Nominations Committee and, if you are slated by the Nominations Committee, to all delegates attending the conference.
     
    A statement of interest should contain 1) why you are interested in the role; 2) your commitment to Mortar Board at the local (chapter level); and 3) a forecast of the ways you would contribute to the National Council of Mortar Board and be a strong advocate for Mortar Board National College Honor Society.

  • 3) If elected, you would serve for one year on the National Council. You will be expected to be at each monthly meeting (by video conference), the Special National Conference each January, the Annual Mortar Board National Conference (in-person in even years, virtual in odd years), and also attend other (virtual) Mortar Board events such as Mortar Board Week, National Virtual Initiations, etc.
