AIA MIAMI WOMEN IN ARCHITECTURE GRANT

GRANT DESCRIPTION
Over half of all architecture graduates identify themselves as females and comprise 53% of AXP candidates after graduation. However, less than 23% of all US registered architects are female, a decrease of almost half. To retain more females in our profession, AIA Miami and the Women in Architecture Committee are committed to increasing gender diversity in the profession by encouraging female voices and supporting their continued success early in their architectural careers.

Acknowledging that the pursuit of licensure is costly, the AIA Miami Women in Architecture Grant supports emerging professional women by assisting grant recipients with the cost of architectural licensure. At least 1 grant of up to $3,500 will be awarded annually. The number and value of awards may vary year-to-year based on applications and available funds

Each grant beneficiary receives AIA Miami community exposure, funds towards architectural licensure and complimentary attendance to the annual WIA 8x8x2 and the AIA Design Awards Gala; dates listed below.

ELIGIBILITY
The AIA Miami WIA Grant is open to those who increase gender diversity in the profession and meet the following criteria:
• Identify as Female
• AIA Miami Associate Membership Required
• Hold an active NCARB record with ARE eligibility
• May have completed all ARE exams within the last month, no earlier than May 31st, 2025.

SCHEDULE
• Open: Monday, August 4th, 2025.
• Deadline: Monday, September 22nd, 2025, by 11:59pm EST
• Recipient Notification: Monday, September 29th, 2025
• Official Announcements (please plan on attending each event):
o WIA 8x8x2, October 3rd. A complimentary ticket will be provided for each awardee.
o Annual AIA Design Awards Gala, October 24th, 2025. A complimentary ticket will be provided for each awardee.
o AIA Miami website and social media accounts - headshot and short bio needed

APPLICATION CRITERIA
Applicant must submit the following:
• Headshot as a separate file: LastName.FirstName.Headshot.pdf
• Short bio as a separate file: LastName.FirstName.Bio.pdf
• 1 compiled PDF as separate file: LastName.FirstName.AIA WIA ARE Grant.pdf
• maximum 15MB, in order shown below
• Resume
• Portfolio/Work Sample (maximum of 5 PDF pages with 300 dpi minimum)
• Proof of Active NCARB Record
• Two Letters of Recommendation from a Professional Architectural Peer
• Letter of Interest describing how the grant funds will be used, such as ARE testing, ARE study and prep materials, how funds will help your career development, and why you should be awarded funds. (500 word maximum)

Grant Award recipient Obligations:
• Follow up requirements, 1 year report, due by September 2026. Recipients are required to provide:
• a short video, 59 seconds max, telling us a little bit about receiving the grant and how important the grant was to you in helping with your AREs
• written report outlining how the money was spent and where you are in the ARE process

The Grant is awarded based on recommendations of the Selection Committee, as appointed by the AIA Miami Scholarship Committee and the AIA Miami WIA Committee.

None of the submitted materials will be returned to the applicant and may be retained and used by AIA Miami.
