Final Rule Resources

  • On April 25, 2024, USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service published the final rule Child Nutrition Programs: Meal Patterns Consistent With the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The final rule continues the science-based improvement of meals served in the National School Lunch Program and other USDA Child Nutrition Programs.

    While the final rule went into effect July 1, 2024, USDA is gradually phasing in required changes. Program operators are not required to make any changes to their menus as a result of this rulemaking until the 2025-26 school year at the earliest.
