Rewiring Aotearoa Rural Survey
  • Welcome

Rewiring Aotearoa is a New Zealand charity working to speed up the transition to an ‘electrified’ future. Its work to date shows that electrification can save New Zealanders money on their energy bills, decrease emissions and give communities the resilience to keep their lights on and homes warm.

Rewiring Aotearoa is working to explore the potential of rural electrification, barriers to electrification and how on-farm energy resilience can be improved. This survey is a key input into this work. It seeks a lot of information and we really appreciate however much you are able to complete.

The information you'll need on hand includes the following. Estimates are absolutely fine - getting an approximate but comprehensive view of your operations is better than an accurate but partial view.

    • total farm area (hectares)
    • the types of machines you use on farm, their quantity, and details like their horsepower, fuel type (e.g. petrol, diesel, electric), etc.
    • approximate total bills for electricity, petrol, diesel, gas, LPG
    • the main heating types for houses/accommodation
    • on-farm power generation from all sources (e.g. petrol, diesel, solar) in kW, the number of ICPs (grid connections) and their sizes in kVa
    • total roof space and land with ground-mounted solar potential (m2)

For the purposes of this survey, a farm is defined as a business which derives its income ‘exclusively or principally’ from agricultural, horticultural or pastoral land use, or for the keeping of bees, poultry or livestock. If you own or operate more than one farm, feel free to choose to answer for just one or all, but please answer consistently.

  • Consent form
    a. Rewiring Aotearoa is committed to protecting your privacy, and data collected through this survey will comply with New Zealand privacy law and operates within Rewiring Aotearoa’s Terms of Use and Privacy and Information Policy.

    b. Survey data will be used to explore the potential of rural electrification, barriers to electrification, how on-farm energy resilience can be improved, and to speed up the transition to an ‘electrified’ future.

    c. Survey responses will be used in a public dataset after being processed and anonymised (meaning that all personally identifiable data will be removed, that is, emails, age, gender, and business name).

    d. Taking part in this study is voluntary (your choice) and that you may withdraw from the study at any time.
