Book “Tory” as a spoken Word Artist
  • Book “Tory” as a spoken Word Artist

Artist statement: My poetry is an oasis where I explore topics including but not limited to relationships, womanhood, trauma, abuse, love, and coming to age. My artistry has allowed for me to bask in my nostalgia and reexamine my experiences that I endured as a child. In addition to this I have also been able to explore where I am in my adulthood and where I hope to go in the future. Through my storytelling abilities and passionate delivery my poetry has been appreciated and accepted across diverse audiences including people from different racial backgrounds, age groups and genders. Nevertheless, my authentic female perspective as a black woman has given me a very special connection with female audiences. I thrive when writing about the experiences that women have endured and overcome. Moreover, Finding my voice in my writing has helped me heal and address the unique perspective of what it feels like to be a woman and attempt to explain how we combat the emotions and situations we endure daily. Through writing I have been able to touch things that aren’t tangible; emotions that cannot always be seen but can be felt. In life the things that are blind to the eye are sometimes the most evident to our hearts. My poetry gives these complex feelings a voice and safe space to exist. My writing includes themes and techniques such as storytelling, imagery, assonance, and rhyme scheme. My spoken word style along with my writing abilities co-exist to ensure I deliver both passionate and authentic writing and performance
