Whitman County Fire District #7 is a volunteer department that provides fire suppression, emergency medical services, technical rescue services and other community services. Volunteers are the backbone of the Fire District and their services are a valuable asset to the Fire District and the community. In making application to join the Fire District as a volunteer, there are requirements that must be met by every applicant.
Description/Expectations
- Candidates must fill out this application.
- Each applicant must pass a physical ability test, oral interview, and a pre-employment packet (drug test, background check, doctor's physical) in order to be accepted as a volunteer. You will be disqualified if you do not pass one or more of the above.
- Training is held on the second, third and fourth Mondays starting at 7pm. Each volunteer needs to attend a minimum of 12 trainings in a calendar year to remain in good standing with the District.
- All new volunteers are on a one-year probation period and can be terminated at any time during that year.
- Volunteers are asked to answer all alarms in their respective station areas and in other areas inside and outside the district when needed. Sometimes the firefighter/EMT will not be able to answer all alarms as outlined due to work and demands made on the firefighter/EMTs time but an average turnout is expected.
- Volunteers are sometimes called upon to perfrom certain civic duties over and above the required training, such as stand-by at celebrations, school functions, public events, etc. This duty is voluntary but highly reccomended.
- Volunteers will be assigned to station areas and will respond to emergency calls within their designated areas or as the situation directs.
- Volunteers will be responsible to see that all equipment used at the scene of an emergency is returned to it's proper apparatus and is in a ready state for the next emergency.
- The volunteer will aquire and maintain a First Aid/CPR certification. This training is provided by the Fire District at no cost to the volunteer.
- Volunteers shall notify the Fire Chief of any changes in address, phone number, drivers license status or criminal charges.
- Training in firefighting, EMS and other topics will be provided by the District. New applicants should complete a task book within one year of joining the department.
