The Genesee Valley Council on the Arts has worked to enrich the quality of life in the Genesee Valley region for over 50 years by promoting arts and culture. GVCA does this by supporting various programs, services for artists and administering grants from the Statewide Community Regrants (SCR) program, formed by NYSCA in 1977. We also offer year-round programming in our three galleries that solicit work from regional artists, maintain one of the largest collections of artwork from the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in our New Deal Collection, and host an array of family-friendly community events.
Internship Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic intern with a passion for art, public history, and archival work. This paid internship is designed for students with a background in Archival Studies, Museum Studies, or History, providing them with hands-on experience in a dynamic and supportive environment. The intern will assist with the organization, cataloging, and preservation of our museum's archival collections. They will participate in creating archival systems, digitizing documents, as well as creating detailed reference guides for materials. Additionally, the intern will work with several departments to develop strategies for improving access to our collections, along with creating a research space. They will also contribute to special projects aimed at increasing public engagement with our archives and collection. Strong research, communication, and organizational skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Familiarity with archival management processes, digitization tools, and museum standards is also desired. Applications are due by January 10th. The internship will ideally start in late January or to early February, but the start date can be adjusted to accommodate the student's schedule.
