As a Whiz Kids Volunteer, I will follow the Whiz Kids Safety Policies as described here:
ALWAYS BE IN THE COMPANY OF OTHER ADULTS WHILE WITH WHIZ KIDS
There is not a circumstance where it is appropriate for any person representing Whiz Kids to be alone, isolated or out of sight, one-on-one with a Whiz Kid. The volunteer is committed to ensuring that all interactions take place in the presence of another adult or a community setting.
TRANSPORTING STUDENTS
When transporting Whiz Kids for any reason, volunteers must always be accompanied by another adult. No volunteer should ever be alone with a Whiz Kid in a car. Whiz Kids requires that all drivers carry active liability insurance. Students who do not meet required height and weight restrictions by the State of Oklahoma must be transported in a child booster seat. Oklahoma requires children ages 4-8 years to ride in a car seat or child booster seat unless the child is taller than 4'9". Booster seats will be provided by Whiz Kids.
MAINTAIN APPROPRIATE BOUNDARIES
To protect and honor the valuable one-to-one mentoring relationship, it is important that volunteers maintain appropriate physical, emotional, and spiritual boundaries with their student, student’s family and fellow volunteers. Setting comfortable boundaries models healthy relationships. These boundaries also encompass technology use. We discourage all electronic communication between mentors and Whiz Kids, including, but not limited to texting, social media use, email, online gaming, etc. All electronic communication should be between the mentor and the student's legal parent(s) or guardian(s) only and never between mentor and student. Electronic devices should be stored while volunteering and volunteers should never share their phone or device with a Whiz Kid. Phones are also prohibited in Whiz Kids site bathrooms while students are present. Guidelines for interactions with students are covered in our volunteer on-boarding process. Additional questions can be directed to your teacher liaison or site coordinator.
MANDATORY REPORTING
You are a student's advocate. Their well-being is why we do the work we do. If you hear, see or feel discomfort regarding anything suspicious, illegal, abusive or inappropriate, please notify your Teacher Liaison and Site Coordinator and contact the appropriate authorities as needed. Site leaders should report ALL non-emergency incidents such as injuries, inappropriate volunteer behavior, etc. to Whiz Kids Staff via our incident report form.
