Dig In! Returning Community Garden Grant

Community Organizations
The Dig In! Community Garden Grant Program, implemented by City Green and funded by Passaic County Board of County Commissioners, aims to support the creation of vibrant community gardens, for the production and access to healthy food, neighborhood beautification and community enhancement. Through Dig In!, City Green will provide financial, technical and educational assistance to develop, build and support community gardens and neighborhood farms throughout Passaic County.

GRANT SCHEDULE:

Application deadline: December 4th, 2024

Grant award notification: January 15th
Grant delivery: March - May 2025
Grant report deadline: November 2025

1- 3 ADDITIONAL RAISED GARDEN BEDS: City Green will work with you to build new raised garden bed(s) suited to your site needs. Includes compost and two types garden bed options - modular metal beds or Durable Greenbeds created from woodchip-cement composite. Estimated value: $500 - $1,000COMPOST DELIVERY: Procurement and coordination of a compost delivery to top off your existing garden beds. Estimated value: $50 per yardMULCH DELIVERY: Procurement and coordination of wood mulch delivery at your garden site for pathways and other use. Estimated value: $40 per yard of mulchPICNIC TABLE or GARDEN SEATING: Select picnic tables, chairs or benches suitable for your garden site.GARDEN SIGNAGE: Work with City Green to design a professionally printed garden banner, corrugated plastic signs, garden kiosks or garden labels of your choice. Estimated value: $100 - $300FLOWER PLANTERS: Select up to 6 high-quality, large plastic planters are 30" wide and 24" deep. Color is your choice. Estimated value: $400PERENNIAL FRUIT PACKAGE: Work with City Green to select your choice and combination of apple trees, peach trees, raspberry bushes, strawberry plants, and blueberry bushes. Two fruit trees, 5 shrubs and 10 strawberry plants available at maximum. Estimated value: $200 - $600WHEELBARROWS: Receive up to two wheelbarrows for your community garden. Estimate value: $100 - $500KIDS GARDENING PACKAGE: Receive a kit of children's watering cans, trowels, magnifying glasses and nature craft supplies. Estimated value: $300LONG-HANDLED TOOL KIT: Includes pointed and flat digging spades, long handed garden forks, leaf rakes, hard rakes, or garden hoes based on request. Estimated value: $300HAND TOOL KIT: Includes your choice of trowels, hand rakes, garden tub trugs, and quality hand pruners based on request. Estimated value: $300 - $400POP-UP TENT AND WEIGHTS: This tent can be used to provide shade, support events, or a mini farmers market in your garden. Estimated value: $100 - $200PEST PROTECTION KIT: Work with City Green to receive fencing supplies for pest protection. Items can include insect or bird netting, chicken wire, fence posts and more based on your garden's unique needs. Estimate value: $400-$1,000WATERING SUPPLIES: Select a hose, nozzle, water timer, drip irrigation, and/or watering cans as needed. Estimated value: $75 - $300SEED AND SEEDLING PACKAGE: $150 toward your purchase of vegetable seeds and seedlings for your garden, plus a 25% discount at the City Green Plant Sale.GARDEN SHED: This weather resistant, plastic storage shed is 53" x 33" x 72" and can be used to store and lock-up your garden tools outdoors. Estimated value: $500SPECIAL REQUEST: Specific items within a $100 - $1,000 value that can be purchased for your garden by City Green.
