  • STUDENT CONTRACT & ATTENDANCE AGREEMENT for IN-PERSON CLASSES

ILI offers free English classes to immigrants and refugees who live in western Massachusetts thanks to funding from the Massachusetts Department of Education and the support of generous community donors.
  • In exchange for free English classes, you agree to the following:

(There are seven statements in total.)
  • 1.) RESPECT
Diversity makes us a stronger school. If you have a problem or concern, please talk to your teacher, advisor, or director.

      *   I agree to be respectful of all students, teachers, and staff.

  • 2.) ATTENDANCE
Attendance is very important to your success, and we want you to be successful! Students in ILI’s Free English Program are expected to attend class two nights a week. If your attendance rate is below 80%, you may be removed from the program.

Note: It is important to arrive to your class on time. Remember to give yourself extra time for parking.

    *   I agree to come to class two nights each week.

  • 3.) ABSENCES - General Information

If you need to miss a class, for any reason (for example: illness, injury, taking care of a family member, work, church events), you need to tell your teacher. If it is not possible to tell your teacher about your absence before class, contact them as soon as possible. Also, schedule appointments outside of class time.

    *   I agree to contact my teacher if I need to miss a class for any reason

  • OUT OF STATE TRAVEL ABSENCES - If you need to travel out of state for an extended period, please talk to Beth Reddish, Ashley Martins, or Laura Eveleigh about maintaining your spot in the class.

    *      I agree to communicate with Beth, Ashley, or Laura about my out of state travel.

  • RELIGIOUS HOLIDAY ABSENCES (for example Ramadan and Reyes Magos) and VACATION ABSENCES - Please tell your teacher when you will stop coming to class and when you will return. Talk to your teacher about their expectations during the time you will be away. Class progresses while you are gone, and we do not want you to fall behind.

    *      I agree to communicate with my teacher to create a plan to keep up with my classes while out.

  • 4.) HOMEWORK - Homework is assigned every week in all classes. Completing your homework regularly will help you learn English. If you have a problem completing the homework, please ask your teacher, advisor, or director for help.

    *   I agree to complete my homework regularly.

  • 5.) ADVISING - A program advisor meets with every student at least one time during the school year to have a conversation about goals and to connect you with future career, educational, or community opportunities. You may meet with an advisor only once, or you may meet with an advisor many times, depending on your goals. Meeting with an advisor is part of being an ILI student. The program advisor will contact you to make an appointment.

    *      I agree to meet with the program advisor at least once during the school year.
