The SND SHINE Mom Mentorship program pairs young moms of young children with a veteran mom, religious sister, or retired teacher as a mentor. The mentors are trained to Support, Honor, Inspire, Nurture, and Empower the moms they are paired up with and help them overcome challenges that could potentially become obstacles to preparing their children for kindergarten.

Studies show that a child who is not ready for kindergarten struggles in school and will unlikely ever catch up to their peers academically. Children who are ready will be more successful students and in turn more successful adults.

Proper training for mentors is the key to a successful mentorship. Training will be provided by the Sisters of Notre Dame SHINE Coalition so that Mentors feel confident in how to best help their Mentees and are familiar with the tools and resources available.
All Mentors will be required to attend an in-person training workshop before being paired with a Mentee. The SHINE Mentor Training Workshop will take place at the Sisters of Notre Dame Administrative Offices, 1656 Henthorne Drive, Suite 200, Maumee, OH. The specific training date will be announced soon and lunch will be provided upon the completion of the training.
