International Large Shipment Application

Thank you for your interest in promoting literacy in your community! Note: We receive hundreds of applications annually. To ensure your application's greatest chances of success, please provide as much detail as possible about your organization and how the books will benefit your community. If your application moves forward, you will hear from us! If you do not hear from us within 3 months of applying, that means we were unable to process your request at this time. We encourage you to reapply!

We will review your application based on the following criteria:

1. The organization's demonstrated need and potential reach

2. Our ability to provide the books requested

3. Our ability to ship books to the indicated address

A large shipment refers to a pallet (containing 1,500-2,500 books), a 20-foot sea container (containing 12,500-17,500 books), or a 40-foot sea container (containing 25,000-35,000 books). If your organization is in need of a smaller amount of books (only a few boxes), please instead apply using the International Small Shipment Application.

What type of large shipment are you interested in receiving? (Please note: International Book Project has limited funding each year for sea containers and sends these to organizations with the greatest reach.)*
International Book Project is a small nonprofit with limited funding. We are grateful when our partners are able to contribute to shipping costs, as it allows us to stretch our funding further and send more books every year. Below are the average costs of shipping and handling for each type of large international shipment. These numbers vary widely as cost is dependent on the type/weight of books requested, the country they are being sent to, and many other factors.

Pallet - $3,000-$5,000

20' Sea Container - $9,000-$15,000

40' Sea Container - $12,000-$20,000
