Welcome to your Voice Health Self-Assessment!
  • Welcome to your Voice Health Self-Assessment!

  • If you’re here, you might be noticing that your voice is affecting your life more than you’d like. This Voice Self-Assessment is a simple, guided way to reflect on how your voice feels and functions in your daily life. It’s designed to help you understand how your voice may be influencing your communication, confidence and interactions. Think of it as a personal check-in for the health and well-being of your voice and how it supports you every day.

    How It Works:

The Voice Self-Assessment is based on the Voice Handicap Index (VHI), a clinically validated tool designed to evaluate how voice concerns impact your daily life. It explores the physical, functional, and emotional aspects of your voice, helping you gain a clearer understanding of how your voice supports or challenges you in communication and social interactions.

This self-assessment offers quick, reflective questions to help you pinpoint the ways your voice is influencing your everyday life:

Functional and Everyday Activities: How well your voice helps or hinders you in being heard and understood.
Physical Feelings: Any strain, fatigue, or discomfort you experience when speaking.
Emotional Impact: How your voice affects your confidence, interactions, or feelings about speaking.

By completing this tool, you’ll gain valuable insights into how your voice impacts your life and daily interactions. Your results can serve as a helpful starting point to share with a speech pathologist, GP, or ENT specialist, providing a clearer understanding of your voice’s unique challenges and strengths. As a speech pathology service with a dedicated focus on voice care, we are here to help you interpret your results and explore personalised strategies to enhance your voice and support your well-being. If your results raise any concerns or if you’d like guidance on next steps, our team is ready to assist you.

The Voice Handicap Index (VHI) was developed by Jacobson et al. in 1997. Read more about it here.
