General Requirements
All portable tools must be UL rated and Grounded or double insulated.
Extension cords must have the grounding prong and insulation intact while in use.
Only ladders with non-conductive siderails shall be used around electrical components.
GFCIs are required when working in damp or wet locations.
Prior to doing any electrical work, employees are required to remove conductive articles of jewelry or clothing
Energy Isolation
Prior to doing electrical work, if possible, de-energize the equipment. Refer to the Validus Energy LOTO program found on the programs tab of Validus.Energy.
Extension Cords
Extension cords are not to be used for extended periods of time. They must be inspected prior to use and discarded if the jacket is broken, ground prong is missing or another defect is noted.
Surge protectors and power strips are not rated as extension cords and shall not be connected in a series.
Extension cords shall be protected from damage. Do not run through unprotected holes, doorways, or staple cords.
Extension cords should be secured or taped down whenever they cross a walkway.
Circuit Breakers/Fuses
Do not bypass circuit breakers or fuses.
Overcurrent devices are not intended to be reset repeatedly. In the event of multiple trips, seek assistance from a qualified electrician[DA3] .
Use fuse pullers to change fuses.
Use/Labeling
Ensure that the equipment used is rated for the environment it will be installed in.
Do not remove manufacturer’s labels from equipment.
Clearance
Do not park temporary equipment or store material underneath or within 15 feet of energized power lines.
If proper clearance cannot be maintained contact the power company to have lines jacketed.
Ensure 36 inches of clearance is maintained in front of electrical panels.
