Lilting Workshop - Saturday at 9:30am at the Blue Room

Saturday, September 21st, 9:30am-10:30am. Of all the tools we have to learn Irish music, one of the most useful has been right under your nose the whole time. Lilting is an invaluable exercise for ingraining tunes and all those tricky ornaments into your head. Irish music has always been referred to as "diddly music" for a reason, and that's because of lilting. It's especially useful if you've been wanting to get "off book," that is, to play tunes without sheet music. All instruments welcome--none required! Taught by Hanz Araki.

Polka Workshop - Sunday 10:30am at the Blue Room

Sunday, September 22nd, 10:30am-11:30am at the Blue Room. Irish music is mostly known for its jigs and reels, but in West Kerry, the polka is king. This workshop is a perfect opportunity to take another look at these deceptively tricky tunes. You might learn a new tune or two, or for those well-versed in polkaing, maybe you'll find a new perspective. We'll also talk a bit about one of the more challenging aspects of polkas: accompaniment.
