For the virtual events, the Zoom link(s) will be shared with you the day before the session(s) for which you register.

Postdoc Panel

Postdoctoral positions are becoming increasingly important to stay competitive on the academic job market. This panel features UCR alumni who participated in postdoctoral fellowships. Our panelists will discuss their experiences around the search and application process, position requirements, and time management.

Recently Hired Faculty Panel

Tuesday, November 5th | 2 - 3 pm | Zoom

This panel consists of recently hired faculty at research universities. The panelists will discuss navigating an academic job search, the application process, job talks, and interviews. Attend to become a well-informed and better prepared candidate on the competitive academic job market.

An Introduction to Academic Cover Letters

Wednesday, November 6th | 10 - 11 am | HUB 265

Make your cover letter stand out! Learn the basics of effective academic cover letters and how you can better market your academic skills to a hiring committee. Bring the announcements for any jobs you are applying to and a draft of your cover letter.

Dr. Ashley Harlow is the program manager for the Teaching Assistant Development Program in GradSuccess at the Graduate Division. She earned her PhD at UC Irvine, and was on staff at the University of Georgia before joining UCR in 2023.

Interviewing for Faculty Positions

Wednesday, November 6th, 2024 | 11 am - 12 pm | HUB 265

Learn to master the interview! In this workshop, learn tips for presenting yourself well during both in-person and virtual interviews.

Dr. Annika Speer earned her BFA in Theatre at University of Colorado Boulder. She then went on to earn her MA in Dramatic Arts and her PhD in Theatre Studies with doctoral emphasis in Feminist Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She joined UCR in 2015 and is now a Professor of Teaching, Theatre, Film, and Digital Production at UCR Theatre Department.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Morris Maduro, Divisional Dean of Life Sciences

Wednesday, November 6th, 2024 | 2 - 3 pm | HUB 367

Gain insights into what hiring committees are looking for in new PhD graduates and postdocs applying for faculty positions at research universities.

Dr. Morris Maduro is a Professor of Biology in the Department of Molecular, Cell, and Systems Biology and the current Divisional Dean of Life Sciences in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. He earned his PhD from the University of Alberta and joined UCR in 2003.
