The HERO (Health Exploration Resources & Opportunities) Mentoring Program is launching this fall for students interested in medicine and health care careers! If you enjoy learning about science & technology, human body systems, diseases, and current issues in health care, then the HERO Mentoring Program is for you! HERO Mentoring participants are matched with a medical student mentor from the UVM Larner College of Medicine. Participants will meet with their mentor virtually throughout the fall and winter to discuss topics in health sciences and medicine, and to gain support in meeting their education and career goals. HERO 2024-2025 PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS
HERO participants must:
- Attend one (1) virtual orientation and tech test session on Monday, October 7th at 6:30 PM. There will be a make-up session for those unable to attend on Wednesday, October 9th at 6:30 PM.
- Attend all eight (8) live, virtual meetings with a medical student mentor from October through December.
- With your mentor, document your work towards your personal learning goals (for example, college preparation, career exploration, and academic achievement).
EXPECTATIONS
HERO participants are expected to:
- Respond to your mentor and to AHEC staff when they reach out to you.
- Show up to virtual meetings on time and ready to engage with your mentor.
- Be an active participant in virtual mentoring sessions.
- Challenge yourself to try new things and put yourself in new situations.
