HOTEL FACTS:
- Interview Difficulty and Expectations: Hotel employment interviews are significantly more challenging than resort interviews. Applicants must research the general area and township of the property, have a solid knowledge of the brand, and recall details about various hotel facilities and facts. Luxury hotels have very high standards for all of their employees. Competition for certain hotel roles is intense, resulting in a much higher decline rate compared to resorts.
- Indoor Work: Hotel work involves roles that are entirely indoors.
- Ski and Summer Passes: Our hotel partners do not offer free ski or summer mountain passes. However*:
- Fairmont Whistler: Provides a winter staff benefit of $1,000 towards the purchase of a winter ski pass. No summer staff benefit is offered.
- Four Seasons, Whistler: Offers a winter staff benefit of $1,000 towards the purchase of a winter ski pass. No summer staff benefit is provided.
- Fairmont Mountain Region: Does not offer any winter or summer staff benefits.
Please note that hotel benefits can change without TWHC being notified. Refer to the employers' websites for the most up-to-date information.
*Luxury hotels typically pay higher wages than resorts, so even though a lift pass is not included, the higher wages will more than make up for this by the end of the season!
Fairmont Mountain Region: If this is your location preference, you will be considered for all three Fairmont Mountain Region properties: Chateau Lake Louise, Jasper Park Lodge, and Banff Springs. Fairmont will take your location preference into consideration but ultimately your placement location will be determined by the recruiter and the needs of each property.
IMPORTANT:
Back-of-House Roles: Approximately 95% of hotel roles are back-of-house, including housekeeping, stewarding (aka dishwashing), and kitchen positions.
If you lack previous hotel experience, the likelihood of being placed in a back-of-house role is extremely high, should you pass the interview.
If you lack experience and are not interested in a back-of-house role and want the best chance of getting a job offer, do not select to work for a hotel!
