ABOUT EACH SESSION:
Session 1: Sunday 29 September 2024
Developing an artistic practice: ideas, materials, and language
Talk (10.30-11.15am): From a picture to a practice with Katy B Plummer
How do artists develop a body of work for exhibition? As you grow as an artist, you move from creating standalone works to building your own artistic language. Hear from video, sculpture, and installation artist Katy B Plummer about how her practice has developed, and how her relationship with ideas and materials has evolved over time.
Workshop (11.45am-1pm): Learning through sharing with Ju Bavyka
In the afternoon, work with artist, writer, and community organiser Ju Bavyka to develop your skills in analysing and discussing each other’s works. These important skills will help you to understand your own artistic methods and motivations at a deeper level, while opening the door to fruitful and supportive relationships with other artists. Ju will guide you through ways to observe and reflect on artwork with openness, generosity, and honesty.

Artist and Firstdraft Board Member Monica Rani Rudhar, who grew up in the Liverpool area, will talk through her experience of exhibiting in different kinds of art spaces.
