PRELIMINARY AUDITIONS AND FINALS

Check-in begins at 10:00 AM

Doors open to the public at 11:30 AM

Auditions begin at 12:00 PM

 

All dates and events are subject to change at the sole discretion of the Portland Winterhawks.

Portions of auditions are expected to be filmed and photographed for the Portland Winterhawks, Portland’s CW Television and social media.

 

 

2024 AUDITION DETAILS

 

REQUIREMENTS

Interested candidates must be 18 years of age.

Must have reliable means of transportation to rehearsals, games, and appearances.

Must have a flexible schedule that can accommodate the 2024-25 Winterhawks home games, rehearsals, and external appearances (August – July).

Participation in external appearances is an integral part of this role.

Must be able to attend practices every Wednesday evening for the entire season (beginning August 21, 2024 to April 3, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM). Additional weekend practices will be scheduled in August and September. Additional practices may be added throughout the season.

Must meet and maintain dancing skill requirements, personal appearance, and fitness level throughout the season.

Must have an outgoing and positive demeanor.

Must abide by the other Terms and Conditions included with application materials.

PRELIMINARY TECHNIQUE AUDITIONS & LEARN ROUTINES

Time: 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM

Candidates will be judged on Across the Floor Technique.

Candidates will learn two routines including:

 · Choreography for a 1-minute hip hop routine

 · Choreography for a 1-minute jazz routine

LA Fitness Lloyd Center and Vega Dance+Lab are providing optional time slots at their studios for candidates to practice and prepare for Auditions.

PRELIMINARY ROUND AND FINALS JUDGING

Sunday, August 18

Location: Lakeridge High School (Lower Gym)

Registration begins at 10:00 AM.

The Show begins at 12:00 PM and is open to spectators.

Preliminary Round

 · Candidates will be given time to warm-up and must come prepared to perform the hip hop routine in small groups in front of the judging panel.

 · Continuous Solos – Dancers will have four counts of 8 to perform their own choreography for the judging panel. Music will be made available on August 14.

 · Finalists will be selected at the end of the Preliminary Round to continue to Finals.

Finals

 · Candidates who make it to Finals must come prepared to perform the jazz routine in small groups for the judging panel.

Score sheets and judges’ comments will not be made available.

 

TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT

WHAT TO WEAR

Fitted, athletic wear (flesh-colored tights are permitted).

You may wear any kind of dance shoe, sneakers or perform barefoot. Please make sure shoes have non-marking soles.

Hair should be styled down and game ready.

Game day makeup.

 

WHAT TO BRING

Snacks, water, makeup and hair products for touch ups. Please note that there is no extended lunch break. There will be breaks but not long enough to leave the site for food.

 

FORMER MEMBERS

Members of the 2023-24 dance team who want to audition for the 2024-25 team will go straight to Finals.

WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY FORM

Whereas {name} (“Participant”), who is not an employee of the Portland Winterhawks and is at least 18 years of age, has a desire to participate in the auditions for the Rosebuds Dance Team to be held at a specific location and date.

Whereas, Participant fully understands the risks involved in that it is possible to sustain serious injury during the course of the Auditions, and NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the opportunity to participate, as applicable, in the aforementioned Auditions, Participant agrees as follows:

1. I hereby release, waive and discharge the Portland Winterhawks, its affiliates and its respective officers, directors, board members, agents and employees, from all liability to me and to my conservators, guardians or other legal representatives, assigns, heirs and next of kin to any and all claims, demands, losses or damages on account of any injury, death, or damaged property, arising out of my participation in Auditions.

2. I hereby release, waive and discharge the Portland Winterhawks, its affiliates and its respective officers, directors, board members, agents and employees, from all liability to me and my conservators, guardians or other legal representatives, assigns, heirs and next of kin for any and all claims, demands, losses or damages on account of any injury, death or damaged property, arising out of any negligence relating in any way to the Auditions.

3. I also hereby agree to indemnify and hold harmless from any claim or demand on account of injury or damage which I may suffer as a result of the Auditions the Portland Winterhawks, its affiliates and its respective officers, directors, board members, agents or employees.

 4. I understand that this release, waiver and agreement to indemnify and hold harmless includes, but is not limited to, damages which are caused, or alleged to be caused, in whole or in part by the negligence of the Portland Winterhawks, its affiliates and its respective officers, directors, board members, agents and employees.

5. I understand that participation in the Auditions is done on a purely voluntary basis. I understand that participation in the Auditions can, in some cases, cause injuries, including potentially severe injuries, and severe social and economic losses. I am familiar with the potential risks involved in the Auditions and I assume all suck risk.

6. I acknowledge that I have the opportunity to inspect the equipment, facilities, and either have done so or will do so, and I hereby waive any claim I may have with respect to the use, design or operation of the equipment or facilities that I may use.

7. I acknowledge that the Portland Winterhawks may video tape and/or photograph the Auditions and that any such video footage or photographs will remain the property of the Portland Winterhawks. Furthermore, I agree to the use of any such video footage or photographs by the Portland Winterhawks for promotional items or other public display.

8. The numbered paragraphs of this Release and Waiver of Liability are severable.

9. I have read the above agreement and release of waiver and liability and understand that by signing it I have given up substantial rights. I sign this agreement voluntarily.
