Application is due by Friday, August 23 at 9:00 PM PDT.
We will contact you once we have reviewed your application. If your application does not meet the requirements for mentorship, you will still have time to register and pay for the course before it starts on October 8th.
Thank you for your interest in the professional development opportunity as a somatic mentor for the 21 Day Journey! You are here because you are already a provider with training in somatic work and are interested in learning more about the biology piece...and even possibly continuing on in the Biology of Trauma® Professional Certificate Course.
If approved, you will have full access to the course, just as all the other participants do. However, you will not just be a participant but will also act as a “mentor" to a small group of participants who are just starting somatic work by taking the 21 Day Journey.
Your role as a new mentor would be to attend our mentor training program, lead the daily group somatic exercise for the 21 days, and complete the mentor training debrief and implementation meeting afterward (communicating any absences ahead of time for coverage). Now, let’s be honest. We each have likely been trained differently and that is part of the beauty of somatic work! There is no one right way to do it, but what is helpful to each system. However, as a mentor of this course and one interacting with participants, we need to agree that during this course, you will:
1) watch my pre-recorded daily video exercises and
2) lead the group according to my preference.
You would need to adapt to my way of leading these exercises and agree to lead the exercises as I do.
Your role is to lead the daily group somatic exercise, engaging participants and asking them to share what they notice after or as they do an exercise. I will show you examples of how I lead the small groups and I would want you to adapt to my style to provide consistency to the participants and avoid them being overwhelmed.
Your role will NOT be to teach, answer questions about the course or curriculum, or provide counseling or therapy of any kind. You are not to allow participants to get into their stories and trigger the other participants or take up group time with their stories. Keep them focused on the present state of their body sensations and nervous system. Remember, regardless of what license you may have, you are not acting as a licensed provider in this course. This is to protect you and me legally.
If participants have a lot of questions about a certain topic or are struggling, please notify me, Dr. Aimie. If you feel that the course needs changing or is incorrect at some point, please bring that privately to me, Dr. Aimie, and not to any participant.
Warmly,
Dr. Aimie
