    Requirements:

    • You will need to participate to receive your certificate.
    • You need to be willing to have your camera turned on and be focused for the 2-hour session.
    • Good internet connection which includes capacity for both, audio and visual connectivity (preferably a computer/laptop, but could include iPad, cell phone, or other means).
  • DESCRIPTION:

    This training is focused on validating the role and responsibilities of a family member and/or caregiver, creating safe spaces where services providers and advocates learn and share about the diverse challenges related to family integration, the perception of treatment services, generational trauma and the multiple hats a family member often has to wear in their daily lives. During the training we will align these topics with the eight dimensions of wellness, self-care activities and goal development focused on creating a bridge between the family member and treatment services providers. 

  • Objectives:

    • How to build trust and identify the needs, strengths and priorities of a diverse
      community
    • Improve family engagement by creating an intentional supportive environment that is mindful of their individual circumstances
    • To share trauma-informed tools and strategies a service provider can explore to integrate within their program
    • How to educate families on the importance of peer-driven practices

    Juan Vélez Court

    Juan Vélez Court is a proud husband and mental health advocate who openly shares his lived experiences and past challenges to inspire others toward a positive future. Residing in Puerto Rico, Vélez serves as a consultant for the Mental Health and Anti-Addiction Services Administration of Puerto Rico, as well as the National Empowerment Center. His work centers on integrating Peer Support services, promoting inclusive work environments, and fostering workplace wellness. Vélez also utilizes his background in digital production to support the development of podcasts and social media content aimed at motivating others to explore new adventures, broaden their perspectives, and enhance their quality of life and social connectivity. With a passion for educating and empowering others, he is a certified peer support specialist trainer and an eCPR trainer. Additionally, he holds certifications in practices such as WRAP and ASIST.     Joana Arcangel

    Joana is a parent, writer, peer supporter, trainer, consultant, and disability rights advocate. She values finding ways to explore and honor neurodiversity, creativity, meaningful connections, and resiliency. Her career journey includes having led a peer-run respite home in California. Joana co-facilitated the first national peer respite leadership retreat, in November 2023. She has also worked within a transitional age youth (TAY) peer program that focused on career and education exploration and financial literacy.
