We are the residents of the Morningside Towns, Manchester, and other nearby communities, located near Club Platinum (Platinum Gentleman's Club Atlanta) at 1905 Piedmont Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30324. Morningside Towns and Manchester communities include many homes with young children and are situated along Rockledge Road, Manchester Street, and Lambert Drive.
For years before its closure, Club Platinum was a hotspot for crime, with numerous complaints of gang activity, armed offenses, liquor violations, and multiple instances requiring police intervention. In 2010, three club staffers from Platinum were sentenced to federal prison for attempting to set fire to a rival establishment in the area. In January 2018, a 27-year-old man was shot multiple times. Just one month later, a bouncer was shot while attempting to break up a fight inside Club Platinum. More recently, a child of one of the residents found a firearm wrapped in a plastic bag in a trashcan, likely placed there overnight by a patron of this establishment. During the time the club remained in operation, the neighborhood experienced a dramatic uptick in criminal activity with several car break-ins and incidents of public nuisance. Due to Club Platinum's lack of adequate parking for its patrons, visitors to this establishment would frequently park illegally along Rockledge, blocking access for emergency vehicles. Late-night noise complaints were also all too common.
Nine months ago, a fire broke out at Club Platinum, severely damaging the establishment. Since then, the structure has fallen into disrepair, the parking lot has become overgrown, and building has become a blight on our community. Additionally, the presence of this overgrown and neglected building at the entrance of our community is severely affecting home sales in our neighborhoods.
Now, KJBR, LLC d/b/a Club Platinum, represented by Sineet Tesfay, is seeking to re-open this establishment and obtain a license "to operate a nightclub with liquor, beer, and wine consumed on the premises, along with customer dancing and adult entertainment, at 1905 Piedmont Road." This case will be heard at the License Review Board Meeting on August 20 2024 as a due cause for denial of the application based on the same issues raised in the NPU recommendation for denial in 2022 and 2023.
We, the residents of the Morningside Towns, Manchester, and other nearby communities, STRONGLY OPPOSE the re-opening of Club Platinum.
