We are excited that you would like to join the QUT Law Society's committee next year! This is the official form to nominate for a 2025 position.
All positions will be elected using a full preferential ballot at our Annual General Meeting on Sunday 27 October 2024. Nominees may select up to 3 positions to nominate for, in order of preference. If a nominee does not get elected to a position, they may apply for a vacant position after the AGM.
Nominations close at 5:00pm on Wednesday 23 October 2024.
We have three types of positions:
- Management Committee - responsible for the oversight and management of the Society.
- Directors - responsible for direction and oversight of a portfolio (subcommittee).
- Officers - responsible for assisting with events and activities within their portfolio.

Nominees for the Management Committee are invited to give a 2 minute speech followed by 4 minutes of question time. Director nominees will get a 1 minute speech with 2 minutes of question time. Officer nominees will have a short question and answer period.
Requirements
All nominees must:
- Be current QUTLS Associate Members. (As in, you are currently studying a Bachelor of Laws at QUT and have a 2024 QUTLS Playing Card).
- Be studying law at QUT for the full duration of 2025. Students who will graduate after completing semester 1, 2025 and who will undertake Practical Legal Training at QUT in semester 2 may be eligible to run, but must mention this in their nomination.
- Agree to purchase a 2025 QUTLS membership when it is released.
- For Management Committee and Director nominations:
- Must be 18 years or older; and
- Must not be an undischarged bankrupt; and
- Must not have been convicted of an offence on indictment or any offence under the Associations Incorporation Act 1981 (Qld), unless the rehabilitation period has experied.
- For Secretary nominations, must also be resident in Queensland or in another State within 65km of the Queensland border; at the time of nomination and during the entire term.

Before and after nomination, all persons must comply with rule 58 of the QUTLS Constitution, including:
- Not interfering or manipulating (including attempts) with the fair running of the election.
- Not make any fraudulent, misleading or deceptive statement, or engage in any such conduct to further their campaign.
- Not engage in or promote stacking (as in, inviting people to join the AGM to manipulate any vote).
- Not campaign on any form of public advertisement, social media or other publication.
- Not create, give away or sell any merchandise as part of a campaign.
- Comply with the National Privacy Principles and QUT student conduct policies at all times.
Insurance Disclosure
The QUT Law Society is covered for $20,000,000 in public liability insurance for any one occurance, plus defence costs. This policy will expire at 4:00pm AEST on 30 August 2025.
