  • AMSA Certification requirements for MAR30821:

    For AMSA certification, you need to show you have experience working at sea in an engineering capacity, performing duties as an engineer, engine driver, assistant to an engineer or engine driver, or as a general purpose hand.

    You can reduce the amount of sea service you need by completing an AMSA task book.

    In some cases you may enrol with North Regional TAFE before you have met the AMSA sea time, however you must attain the AMSA requirements within 12 months of completing the course.

    Sea service required for AMSA Certification:

    With a completed AMSA task book Without AMSA task book
    - 180 days on commercial vessels with inboard diesel engines at least 150 kilowatts; or
    - 90 days on commercial vessels with inboard diesel engines at least 150 kilowatts while holding a workshop skills equivalent qualification.
    - 360 days on commercial vessels with inboard diesel engines at least 150 kilowatts; or
    - 180 days on commercial vessels with inboard diesel engines at least 150 kilowatts while holding a workshop skills equivalent qualification.


    Sea service required for enrolment with NR TAFE:

    With a completed AMSA task book Without AMSA task book
    - 180 days on commercial vessels with inboard diesel engines at least 150 kilowatts; or
    - 90 days on commercial vessels with inboard diesel engines at least 150 kilowatts while holding a workshop skills equivalent qualification.
    - 270 days on commercial vessels with inboard diesel engines at least 150 kilowatts; or
    - 130 days on commercial vessels with inboard diesel engines at least 150 kilowatts while holding a workshop skills equivalent qualification.

     

  • AMSA Certification requirements for MAR30921:

    For AMSA Certificate, you need to show you have experience working at sea in a deck, or deck and engineering capacity.

    You can reduce the amount of sea service you need by completing an AMSA task book.

    In some cases you may enrol with North Regional TAFE before you have met the AMSA sea service requirements, however you must attain the AMSA requirements within 12 months of completing the course.

    Sea service required for AMSA Certification:

    With a completed AMSA task book Without AMSA task book
    - 120 days of sea service on commercial vessels at least 7.5 metres long. - 360 days of sea service on vessels at least 7.5 metres long
    - At least half on commercial vessels.
    - Up to half on recreational vessels.


    Sea service required for enrolment with NR TAFE:

    With a completed AMSA task book Without AMSA task book
    - 120 days of sea service on commercial vessels at least 7.5 metres long. - 270 days of sea service on vessels at least 7.5 metres long
    - At least half on commercial vessels.
    - Up to half on recreational vessels.

     

  • You need to submit at least one of the following as proof of qualifying sea service:

    • Record of sea service form 771
    • the on board sea service record from your task book
    • a letter from the vessel operator, owner, master or chief engineer detailing your sea service.
    • an approved sea service log book
