  • What is this award?

    First awarded in 2022, the SIFMA C&L Society Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) Advocate Award celebrates legal and compliance professionals who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to building creative solutions that address DE&I inequities in the financial services industry and ensures the next generation of leaders reflects our diverse society.

    The award is presented annually by the SIFMA Compliance & Legal Society at its Annual Seminar, and is focused on individuals who are disrupting the status quo in the development, implementation and support of DE&I initiatives. The next Annual Seminar will be held in Austin, TX on March 23-26, 2024.

    Nominees should have demonstrated measurable success in supporting and encouraging the inclusion of women, minorities, persons with disabilities and/or persons of differing sexual orientation and gender identities.

    Who is eligible?

    Any legal or compliance professional working for a financial services firm, outside counsel, or vendor that supports the industry may be nominated. The nominee must be able to demonstrate tangible and sustainable results. SIFMA C&L Executive Committee members are not eligible for nomination.

    Nominees will be assessed in the following categories:

    • Innovation of DE&I ideas
    • Thought leadership in the legal and compliance sector of the financial services Industry
    • Leadership and promotion of diverse teams
    • Leadership through creating an environment that eliminates barriers to communication and encourages everyone’s contribution
    • Hiring, retention and promotion of diverse candidates
