Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Test and Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Melbourne. This role will play a critical part in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of test and manufacturing systems for our advanced FPGA-based, software defined test Instrumentation. The position requires a proactive engineer with deep technical knowledge and a passion for hands-on problem-solving in a manufacturing and test environment.
This role works closely with our hardware development team and supports our contract manufacturers (CMs) in Melbourne and overseas in the production of electronic test and measurement equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manufacturing Test System Development: Design, implement, and maintain manufacturing test systems for high-performance test instrumentation, focusing on FPGA-based hardware.
- Collaboration with R&D: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D and firmware teams, to ensure product manufacturability, testability, and quality.
- Test Strategy Implementation: Develop and refine test strategies and methodologies to validate product functionality, reliability, and performance at all manufacturing stages.
- Process Optimisation: Analyse and improve manufacturing processes for efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Contract Manufacturer Support: Partner with contract manufacturers (CMs) to ensure seamless production of PCBAs and finished units, including planning, troubleshooting, and providing ongoing support.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure rigorous quality standards are maintained throughout the production process, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Monitor and analyse test data to drive continuous improvements in product quality, yield, and process stability.
- Team Leadership: Provide technical leadership and mentoring to our hardware and manufacturing team in the context of test engineering and manufacturing, contributing to our collaborative and high-performance work culture. This role will likely expand in the future to include a direct report.
Required Test Equipment Proficiency:
The successful candidate must demonstrate experience and proficiency using high-speed/high-frequency test and measurement equipment, such as a VNA, spectrum analyser, oscilloscope.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5+ years in test engineering, with a focus on high-frequency PCBAs and FPGA-based systems.
- Hands-on experience in developing and deploying test systems for complex instrumentation, preferably oscilloscopes or similar high-bandwidth products.
- Proven track record working with contract manufacturers on high-volume production.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in high-frequency PCB test, debug, and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with signal integrity, PCB layout guidelines for high-speed circuits, and RF testing methodologies.
- Working knowledge of relevant programming languages (e.g., Python, or C++), and experience using Linux.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to process improvement.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work across departments and with external partners.
- Proven leadership capabilities, with experience in mentoring engineering teams.
