2024-2025 Preferred Universal Screener Approval Committee Educator Interest Survey
Indiana Code 20-35.5 requires Indiana schools to administer a universal screener to all kindergarten, first, and second grade students annually to identify students who may be "at risk" or "at some risk" for learning characteristics related to dyslexia.
Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, Senate Enrolled Act 1 (2024) requires IDOE to procure a preferred universal screener, which will be identified on the list of approved screeners. To support schools and students in greatest need, schools in which fewer than 70% of students achieve a valid passing score on IREAD during the 2024-2025 school year will be required to utilize the preferred universal screener. Any school can opt in to administer the preferred universal screener at no cost and will receive technical assistance from IDOE.
IDOE partners with Indiana educators to review universal screeners in alignment with IC 20-35.5 and SEA 1 (2024). IDOE seeks qualified committee candidates to review assessment program documentation. Qualified candidates include Indiana teachers, instructional coaches, administrators, or similar educators who work with assessment data or assist with the selection and implementation of assessment programs for a school or corporation. Interested individuals must complete the interest survey by Friday, October 4, 2024. Information and responses will not be published or shared with anyone outside of IDOE. Completion of the interest survey is not an indication of commitment and is non-binding.
