Swim Access program is a drowning prevention program designed to teach water safety skills and prepare young swimmers for swim lessons. This program is designed to support communities and families that would typically not have access to or have limited access to water safety programs and swim lessons. The lessons are designed for first time swimmers or swimmers that may be nervous around water. If your child has participated in swim lessons or Swim Access in previous years, this swim program may not be the best fit to support your swimmer in growing their swim skills, please email aquatics@westcookymca.org.
New this September are opportunities for teens and adults too!
The YMCA uses the Safety Around Water curriculum to ensure swimmers have access to swim lessons to build their confidence in and around water to be able to learn essential water safety skills, which can open up a world of possibilities for them to satisfy their curiosity safely.
Classes are offered by age group. We offer a preschool-kindergarten swim access program for children ages 3-5 years old. The youth (or school age) swim access program is for ages 6 to 12 years old. The teen class is for ages 11 to 18 (middle school & highschool). The adult class is for ages 18 and up.
